In the sauna

In a private sauna you set the rules, but Swedish sauna culture is built on simplicity and respect. Sit on a towel, pour a sensible amount of water on the stones and ask your group before adding more steam. Talk at a normal volume, especially in the evening, and never smoke in or near the cabin.

A private sauna means you set the rules – but Swedish sauna culture is built on simplicity and respect. Sit on a towel on the bench if you want to follow tradition (and keep the wood clean). Pour water on the stones in moderation; too much steam can feel unpleasant for everyone.

Talk at a normal volume. The sauna is not a party venue, and neighbours can hear evening bathing. Avoid loud music outdoors. No smoking inside or right next to the cabin.

  • Towel on the bench if you like
  • Moderate löyly – ask your group
  • Quiet voices, especially in the evening
  • No smoking near the cabin

Cleaning up for the next guests

Put all rubbish in the bin in the changing room – never on the ground or in the water. Take bottles and packaging home, wipe the benches if needed and leave the firewood in order. Lock up according to the instructions when you leave, so the next guests find the same lovely cabin you did.

All rubbish goes in the bin in the changing room – not on the ground, not in the water. Take packaging, bottles and disposables home or to the bin. Wipe the benches if you have left obvious marks; a quick once-over is enough.

Leave the firewood tidy and the door locked according to the instructions when you leave. The next guests should be welcomed by the same clean, inviting cabin you were.

Nature and the reserve

Kvädöfjärden is a nature reserve. Use the paths where there are any, do not pick protected plants and do not disturb nesting birds. Leave no litter by the jetty and use the composting toilet rather than nature. Dogs are welcome if kept under control and you clean up after them.

Kvädöfjärden is protected. Walk on paths where they exist, do not pick protected plants and do not disturb nesting birds. Leave no litter by the jetty or along the water. Use the composting toilet – not nature.

Dogs may be welcome if you keep them under control and clean up after them. Remember that others may be out in the reserve at the same time.

Cold plunge etiquette

Take turns on the jetty: let the person in the water climb out before the next one jumps in, and give space to anyone who wants to go in slowly. Keep shouting and splashing down out of respect for neighbours and wildlife. Ask before posting photos of others, and never share the address or key information publicly.

Feel free to photograph the landscape – ask your group before posting pictures where they appear. Do not share the exact address or key information publicly.

Respecting the neighbours

The sauna is close to homes, so keep noise down – especially on late summer evenings – and finish on time according to your booking. That is what keeps the sauna open to guests. If you notice something broken, such as the pump or the door, let us know so it can be fixed in time.
