Overview by season

There is no single best time – it depends on whether you want warm water, a strong contrast, peace and quiet or light evenings. Kvädö Sauna can be booked all year at the same price, 2,000 SEK for 4 hours on site, and the sauna always needs 1–2 hours of heating with firewood.

There is no single “best” time – it depends on whether you want warm water, a powerful cold kick, a quiet booking or the midnight light. Kvädö Sauna can be booked all year at the same fixed price: 2,000 SEK for 4 hours on site.

The sauna is always heated with wood; heating takes 1–2 hours whatever the season. The difference lies in the air, the water, the light and what you want to do before and after bathing.

Summer (June–August)

Summer, June to August, is the most popular season. The sea is at its warmest, often 18–22 °C in July and August, and the light evenings make it easy to bathe late. Perfect for a classic Swedish summer evening with sauna and a swim. Book early, as weekends fill up fast.

Most popular with tourists. The sea is at its warmest, often 18–22 °C in July–August. Long light evenings make it easy to bathe late. Nature is green, birds are active and coastal walks are tempting.

Book in good time – weekends fill up fast. Perfect if you want the classic “Swedish summer” with sauna and a swim on the same evening.

Spring and autumn

In spring and autumn the water is colder, often 5–12 °C, and the contrast with the hot sauna is especially strong. There are fewer guests, more silence and beautiful colours at Kvädöfjärden. April–May and September–October are underrated – bring warm clothes and plan short dips.

The water is colder (often 5–12 °C), but the sauna feeling becomes extra intense. The autumn colours at Kvädöfjärden are beautiful – see our photos from Ekudden in autumn. Fewer guests, more silence.

Ideal if you want Nordic contrast without the summer crowds. Bring warm clothes and plan short dips. April–May and September–October are often underrated.

Winter

A winter sauna is for those used to cold-water swimming: the water is close to zero and there may be ice at the edge. Dips should be short, dry clothes should be ready and someone should always be watching. Book in daylight if you are unsure about darkness and slippery paths to the jetty.

For the experienced: snow, an icy edge, a short dip and quick warming up inside. Water temperature close to zero. Requires planning, dry clothes ready and safety around ice. Not recommended as your first cold plunge.

The sauna is at its best when there is snow on the ground – but respect the darkness and slippery path to the jetty. Book in daylight if you are unsure.

How to choose

Want warm water and a holiday feeling – choose June–August. Want peace and beautiful nature – choose spring or autumn. Looking for adventure and have swum in cold water before – choose winter. For a first visit, summer or early autumn gives the gentlest introduction to sea swimming.
